January 2014 Newsletter

Friends - I recently put together a quick retrospective video of my entire 2013 painting series. (Whew! It was a busy year!) Check it out here.

And a big thanks to Meagan from the Seattle-based group Lemolo for letting me use her amazingly beautiful music for the video. I listened to her album, The Kaleidoscope, throughout the creation of this series so I think it's quite fitting.

Yesterday, my friend sent me this quote from artist Rebekah Joy Plett:

When you buy from an independent artist, you are buying more than just a painting or a novel or a song. You are buying hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of failures. You are buying days, weeks, months, years of frustration and moments of pure joy.

You aren't just buying a thing, you are buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a private moment in someone's life. Most importantly, you are buying that artist more time to do something they are truly passionate about; something that makes all the above worth the fear and the doubt; something that puts the life into the living.

As I reflect on 2013 and welcome 2014, I feel profoundly grateful to all who have supported my art career over the years.

And not just through buying my paintings (which I appreciate!) but through the countless other ways I have been encouraged and inspired and held. You are helping to feed my soul and put life into my living. And for this, I humbly thank you.
